How it all began.

My “ASK” - 2019: I’m looking for a place; an event; an opportunity.

• I’m not looking for handouts, just handprints.

• I may or may not distribute FSGC pamphlets, depending on the location’s wishes and/or restrictions.

• I will have a banner – 14”x 60” with text “Content of One’s Character” for photos.

• I will provide a sign-in sheet requesting [Name - Photo Release Permission - Character Description - Email (optional)].

I am a local artist working on a Community Art Piece that I will be donating to Family Service & Guidance Center (FSGC) at the Works of Heart event in August. The piece is titled, “Content of One’s Character”, and will represent all walks of life, ages, occupations, religions, ethnicities and incomes within the Topeka community.

The Community Art Piece will be comprised of a 54” circular board placed within a custom 16-sided hexadecagon frame. The Community will be placing their handprints (using assorted colored acrylic paints) on the board.

My “OFFER”: I would like to take photos of each participant, with their hands painted, with your business logo/name/location as the backdrop.

• The photos of individuals with painted hands will be compiled into a digital photo album to be displayed as I continue to collect additional handprints. The digital photo album, along with the Community Art piece, will be donated to the FSGC Works of Heart auction, with all funds going to support mental health services within the community.

Mental health issues touch each one of us, at some point, in some way. I am trying to raise awareness of the need for mental health services within the community, and the services/benefits provided by FSGC.

Please consider working with me as I donate my time, talent, and services for a beautiful cause. If your organization would like to participate in this wonderful project, please contact me for further information.

Thanks You

To all my new Handprint friends (my contributing Artist) that helped make this project a success in my heart.

Thank you to my wife Susan for tolerating my latest obsession, believing in me and standing by me.

Jancy Pettit, Pam Evans and all of the staff at Family Service & Guidance Center for giving me the opportunity to create, express and give of myself.

Special Thanks to the children at FSGC and all kids struggling to have a happy childhood my heart goes out to you.

That was a recap of all things “Content of One’s Character” Four years later, the Website of characters has been taken down .but I am happy to say that I still see people on the street that remember taking part in my Art piece and thanking me. The end result of this community Art piece was raising $ for FSGC and more importantly raising awareness to the needs of children with Mental Health issues. I believe the Hand-prints are still on display at Bartlett & West.

Thanks again for all that support Me my project , FSGC and our community.

How is your Mental Health.
